The Body Language Evaluator

Dear Body Language Evaluator,
‘Gestures: Your Body Speaks’ manual and the following guidelines will help you prepare for your role:

You will observe the speakers and audience and point to individual speakers in your report to make them aware of how they control their body language.

The purpose of this role is to make the speakers conscious of and improve their body language and to practise leadership skills and constructive evaluation.

You are expected to give a clear and useful report on the use of body language by the speakers in the Evaluation Session, so:

PRIOR TO THE MEETING

You should
– prepare a brief explanation of your duties for the benefit of guests,
– think how to structure your presentation in the Evaluation Session.

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE MEETING

You should
– choose a place to sit to allow yourself full view of the meeting and its participants.

DURING THE MEETING

You should
– be ready to explain clearly and briefly your role (the purpose and the activities),
– watch carefully all the people who participate in the meeting, take into account their personality and the topic they are talking about,
– when you give your report, point to individual speakers to make them aware of what kind of irrelevant gestures they make,
– say what kinds of gestures have been made, what they mean, if they are appropriate to the messages speakers want to convey,
– give practical advice, if something needs improvement, say how it could be done.

It is essential that speakers be natural and their body language reinforce the message.
